More Renovations

More Renovations

We are always doing things around this house, if its not painting it  is changing the small things to make it feel like home. A couple of months ago went to the Grand Design Show

We had not planned on buying anything at all, just thought go for a walk until we saw Big Ass Fans.
We met the nicest Joe, we spent a lot of time talking to him. After about an hour of discussing we bought two fans. Our first world problem was what colour to pick. They had a couple that would suit our kitchen. It took a week of emailing for him to help us choose. As i said the nicest guy, he went out of his way to help us.
So about 1 week later the fans arrive.

I have never been so excited...ridiculous i know. So we bought some lights and got in the electrician.
I had been talking to one of my electrician friends and he said he had installed the fans so he knew how to do it. There's a lot more to these fans than normal fans so i wanted to use someone i trust.
Ben  Is the nicest guy and honest. If you need any work in Melbourne give him a call.

The fans are amazing, the have 6 levels of speed and don't wobble at all, they also use a tiny  amount electricity unlike the old ones.

Entry

We really hate oyster lights so replaced them all.

T.v Room

Sitting room

Above the dining room table Kim wanted a light cluster, all the ones you can buy are more expensive than buying single ones and putting them together.

It is nice not to have any oyster lights but now we need to paint the roof.

Chuckle Park Bar and Cafe'

Chuckle Park Bar and Cafe'
Chuckle Park Bar and Cafe on Urbanspoon

It reminds me of an American style bar, It could be me really? As you enter you see a row of tables and chairs. It probably fits 20 / 30 people so it fills up quickly. We arrived and it was empty about 30 min later it was packed.  Sunday was a perfect day to sit back have a few drinks and enjoy the weather.

In the city it is really hard to decide what to eat and where to go. According to urban spoon we have over 1700 cafe's / Restaurants  in the CBD which is crazy. You can spend hours looking and trying to decide. We walked past this place and thought why not? It also has $11 Pulled Pork rolls so another great reason.

You order at the caravan and it has a selection of beers, wines, ciders and can make cocktails. The prices are very reasonable as well.
To drink i had a Mountain Goat Fancy Pants Ale, it was very light, fruity but had a slight bitter after taste but was still perfect for a sunny afternoon.

I ordered the $11 Pulled pork roll and it was really tasty, not too sweet but cooked well. Not dry and just fell apart.

We really enjoyed this little place and would probably come back.
Have you been here? What do you think?

Stagger Lee's

Stagger Lee's on Urbanspoon

I was invited to go try this restaurant out yesterday, this place being Proud Mary's sister cafe' has a very similar feel. Very hipsterish with its fancy lights and its industrial walls.

Its table displays are cold drips, it has a nice selection of pastries. I was told the coffee croissant is meant to be really good.

For drinks i ordered the Panama pour over and it was strange, i could not place what the different flavours are, sweet fruity but it had other flavours. This coffee bean can be used for espresso as well as filter so i also tried it as an espresso. Not many beans can work with espresso and filter, well it will work but the flavours will not be right.

Our friend had the Caramel Pixie Gangsta Milkshake, it had salted caramel with chocolate chunks. It was really sweet and crunchy and huge. It is big enough for 2 people.

For lunch i ordered the the Butteril Fried Chicken and it was absolutely sensational, The chicken was really crispy but in the middle was so tender and not dry. It came with cauliflower. It was so balanced,  one of the best meals i have had in a long time and i don't often say that.

Our friend ordered the Shrooms 'n' Truffles, it had roasted pine mushrooms with truffled polenta, egg yolk and toast.

The last order was the Fitz-Royale, it had Asparagus, cashews, avocado and a poached egg.

For dessert we shared the Coco Pop and salted caramel french toast. It was so well balanced, the sweetness from the ice cream and coco pops, but the raspberry gave it a bit of tartness  and crunchiness from the honeycomb.

The food and coffee was outstanding, it has not been around for a long time and i know once people catch onto this place it will be impossible to get into. While it is new and quiet i will have to make the most of it.

Taste Of Melbourne

Our friends invited us to go to the Taste of Melbourne show on Thursday night, the show is at Albert Park. If you follow the Formula 1, every year they block off the park and transform it into a race track. Otherwise you can normally drive around it.

I don't follow the Formula 1, but Melbourne goes absolutely crazy about it. We arrived just after 7pm and found parking.

With all festivals here it was surrounded with a fence, pity the entrance was not that pretty. But once you got inside . When you entered you had to buy a "crown card" and put money on it to buy food and drinks. One crown equalled one Dollar. The Rekorderlig tent was in the entrance inside.

We did not actually even go in here, I don't know why but anyway.

It was a big area and took a while to walk around, it is designed more for drinkers as there was a huge selection of wines, beers, ciders and some tequila and vodkas.

The first tent had coconut water, then was a muesli tent or Yousli. They had a wide variety or you can make custom orders of it and get it shipped directly to your door. They had interesting flavours and was a nice way to start the festival.

We decided to get some food from Movida, We wanted some meat so we got the Pinchito Morunos. It was Lamb marinated in moorish spices and cooked over charcoal.

The lamb was tender and sweet with a bit of a chili bite afterwards.

One tent was full of Dilmah Tea but me being a coffee person did not really take much notice of what they had. I met this really nice guy who started Pics Peanut Butter, he was a very friendly guy and the peanut butter was really fresh and tasty. I forgot to get a Jar but he said he was starting to sell it at Coles Supermarket so i will have to get a jar next time i see it.

Now that Kim can drink some beer , we got beers from the Temple Brewing Company. We got a Hefeweizen and a Lambic. The Lambic was very sour but still amazing and kim enjoyed her Hef, it was light wheaty and fruity.

I have seen First Press Coffee in Spilt Milk and always wanted to taste it. I got my chance to taste it and i really enjoyed it. If i need a cold coffee i know what to get and where from.

After beers and coffee it was time for a cocktail, I had the Wild Turkey spice with freshly squeezed apple juice and it was refreshing.

The Vineyard was filled with a variety of Wineries suppliers and you could drink a whole selection from all over Australia.

We had a bit of money at the end so our friend Lee said we should put our money together and buy a last meal, I had a $1 left..( so I owe them coffee)  We ordered two Smoked Ora King Salmon. It had salmon, croutons, capers and lemon oil, because it was 9:30pm and closed they gave us a Blue murray cod & Green mango salad.

It was dark by the time we left.
It was an amazing night and we really enjoyed ourselves.
Thank you Lee & Vena.
